Sci-Fi Done Right
Valerian and the City of 1000 Planets wasn’t that well received, but it’s genuinely great sci-fi movie. Based on the French comic series Valérian and Laureline by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières. The comic is pretty epic and has been cited as an unrecognised influence on the original Star Wars trilogy too. I’m not going to dig into that mess because I genuinely enjoy both properties.
The opening is a beautifully crafted piece of cinema, proving Luc Besson is a visual engineer of the highest order and I’m deeply satisfied that I got to witness this optical feast on the big screen.
Besides, Bowie!
Watch it, it’ll brighten your day with an injection of some much needed Hopepunk.
